The vortex shedding flow meter is a unique tool that monitors the speed of liquid in pipeline. The way it does this is by indeed counting how many swirls or 'vortices' are produced as the fluid flows around an object that has been placed in its path. We refer to this object as a bluff body.
In the flow of fluid over and around a bluff body vortices are shed alternately from each side of this object. This creates a particular type of pattern known as the Karman vortex street. The frequency of these swirls can be counted to tell us how many volumes through the fluid has passed. More swirls are created the faster that fluid flows.
The vortex shedding flow meter can be used with many liquids and gases, as both are available in a range of sizes for different applications. They are reliable, precise and most importantly they do not cost the earth- which makes them an ideal choice for a wide range of industries and applications.
In order for these flow meters to operate efficiently, they have to be installed properly and regularly maintained. For them to be, say in a straight pipe for example. This contributes to lower errors due to the form of pipe or changes in flow. When the velocity of fluid flow is being perpetually measured, a smooth movement keeps from error stages.
