Different categories of liquid flow meters There are many different types of flow meters for reading the rate at which a liquid is flowing. Some of the most frequent ones include turbine flow meters, ultrasonic flow meters and magnetic flow meters.
Turbine type flow meters utilize a turbine in order to monitor the flow of liquid. These flow meters are used a lot in factories when we need to be super accurate. The commercially available turbine flow meters were accurate and reliable. They are widely used in sectors like oil and gas, chemical processing and water treatment.
Ultrasonic flow meters are another variety we use for liquid flow. Sound wave-based flow meters that you use to see how fast the liquid is moving. They work brilliantly when we don’t want to handle liquid. Ultrasonic flow meters are flexible and are able to take measurements on many types of liquids. They are frequently used for wastewater treatment, food and beverage processing and medicinal applications.
Turbine flow meters operate with it’s metering that examines how fast the liquid passes by the turbine. The turbine is connected to a sensor which measures the speed of the turbine and informs how much flow we have. As always, when high accuracy is required, turbine flow meters are your best option.
Ultrasonic flow meters send sound waves through the liquid and determine the time it takes for the waves to transit. By monitoring the time it takes for the waves to travel with and against the flow, we can determine flow rate. These meters are ideal for when we don’t want to touch the liquid and for different types of liquid measurements.
When selecting a flow meter, you need to know about what you need. Turbine meters are high-accuracy, and ultrasonic meters are non-contact. Each model has its pros and cons, so bear in mind what suits you best before deciding.
